WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF APRSSA

It is my pleasure, as President of our Association, to welcome you at this year’s Annual Congress from Friday 14 to Monday 17 October 2011, at Spier Estate in Stellenbosch, Cape Town.

Magnificent natural surroundings, graceful architecture and the inherent elegance of Spier Estate make it the perfect venue for our congress.

We have confirmed Dr. Glyn Jones and Dr Jose Martin del Yerro as our keynote speakers.

As you well know, Glyn Jones is an internationally recognized plastic surgeon - (whom we claim as one of our own, having trained at UCT!) - with extensive experience in all cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. He has written and lectured extensively on subjects such as breast reconstruction, endoscopic plastic surgery, and vertical breast reduction.

Dr. Jose Martin del Yerro is both the Head of Department of Plastic Surgery, Quiron Hospital, Madrid as well as being, chairman of his own Institute de Cirugia Martin del Yerro. Madrid. He has vast experience in all aspects of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, and is a pioneer in the use of anatomical gel prosthesis. He has chaired and directed many instructional courses, and will bring a European perspective to our meeting.

Additional international speakers who will be contributing to our program include Dr David Ross, Dr. Rafael Vergara Calleros and Dr. Simone Hellman.

With such acclaimed plastic surgeons anchoring our meeting, we promise an unprecedented and stimulating meeting.

We are also extremely priviledged to have Shaun Johnson, the Founding Chief Executive of the Mandela Rhodes Foundation and one of South Africa’s leading authors and political journalists, deliver our Jack Penn Lecture.

I hope you enjoy the three days, using it also as the “perfect” long weekend to catch up with old friends, make new ones and, of course, to invigorate and rejuvenate those grey cells in the latest trends and innovations in our specialty.
